Coconut fibre bristles are harder and are great for cleaning thick-skinned fruits and veggies such as potatoes, carrots etc. Sisal bristles are softer and great for clean thin-skinned fruits and veggies such as apple, squash, cucumbers etc. 

Although this brush is designed for fruits & veggies, it can be used for any cleaning purpose.  Not for use with harsh chemicals.
